Considering dental implants? Here’s what you need to know

When we are children, losing teeth is exciting and means a visit from the tooth fairy. But as an adult, it can be scary and you might be wondering what comes next. If you have lost a tooth and are considering dental implants, you probably have a lot of questions.

Dental implants are one option for people who have lost a tooth or teeth for a myriad of reasons. And if you have an older relative who lost a tooth or teeth and had dentures or a bridge, you should know that technology has changed – for the better.

So what is are dental implants? And who can get them? We’re here to answer your questions. Read on:

Dental implants are basically false teeth that a periodontist or oral surgeon implants in your jaw. They can last for years and years and look like your other teeth. They also require almost NO special treatment! Chances are, no one will be able to tell and you will likely eventually forget you had one done. They are that good.

Today’s dental implants are made of high-tech materials like titanium. They don’t damage nearby teeth and you won’t have noise (denture clicking) when you speak.

They are permanent as well, meaning you won’t have to worry about taking them out, cleaning them, or leaving them someplace.

So what are the downsides? They can be costly. And the process to put the dental implants in your mouth isn’t quick – it could take several appointments, with X-rays, molds made of your teeth and the placing of the implant.

It can also take a few months to fully heal from the procedure and you’ll need sedation during it, meaning you’ll need a friend or family member to take you home.

However, dental implants are a great option for many people and we’d love to talk to you about it!
